Frequently Asked Questions

Click here for further information and updates about the closure of Gosford Private Maternity Services.

Why is the service closing?

We have been supporting this service to remain open for a number of years. Unfortunately, as a result of declining birth rates, decreasing demand for private maternity services on the Central Coast, increasing cost of living pressures, and challenges with private health insurance funding for private hospitals, the service is no longer sustainable.

When will the service close?

We plan to remain open until Monday 31st March 2025, ensuring that all families who are currently booked in with us will receive the care they need.

I haven’t booked in yet, can I still book?

We are still accepting bookings for admissions up until Monday 31st March. Please speak with your Obstetrician about your options and alternate arrangements after this date.

I’ve submitted my paperwork but haven’t attended my Booking In appointment. What do I do?

You will be able to attend your Booking In appointment as scheduled. We will be in contact with you shortly to confirm.

Can I still attend my Antenatal Class?

Yes, if you are already booked in for a class you will still be able to attend.

Do I still attend my Antenatal appointments?

Yes, our antenatal services will continue to be offered until the end of March 2025 including our Day Assessment Unit Clinics. For questions relating to your pregnancy and birth, please speak with your Obstetrician.

What will happen with the staff?

We will work with each of the staff to redeploy them into other roles, where possible.

Will you still offer gynaecology and paediatric services?

Yes, we will continue to offer a range of gynaecology services, paediatric surgery and paediatric services through our accredited Doctors.

What will happen to the maternity ward?

We are currently reviewing the range of services available at Gosford Private Hospital, with the aim to repurpose the space so that we can continue to support the needs of our growing community.

Who do I contact for more information?
